When I first left my corporate career to focus on a journey of herbalism and holistic health, I couldn't have told you that I would eventually end up opening a metaphysical shop selling crystals, reading Tarot, and practicing Reiki. So how did that happen? And why?
First, let's go back in time.
Without explicitly realising it, my spiritual path and wellness practice have always intersected. In my 20s, I experienced infertility, multiple miscarriages, and weight gain, all of which led me to a point where I needed to take control of my health - something I hadn't put too much thought into before - and I went to my first yoga class. What started as a low-intensity fitness program and a way to reconnect to my body, quickly became a doorway to an understanding of my energetic self and how it influenced my physical wellbeing. In my early 30s, after my divorce, I slipped into an anxiety-riddled depressive state. It was then that I deepened my meditation practice and began to dive headfirst into some of the darkest of my shadow work, which included the integration of various plant medicines.
Throughout my life I have been drawn to alternative modalities and herbal remedies, as well as the supernatural, but it was really only when I started studying herbalism that I truly realised how linked our spirituality is with our overall wellness. The herbalism program I chose for my certification included Medical Astrology, Tarot, Kabbalah, as well as Ayurveda and the Chakra System, which, to me, felt like a truly holistic approach to my practice.
The deeper I explored, the greater my desire grew to work with the more mystical forms of healing by incorporating astrology, crystals, energy work, sound, and intuition, in addition to herbs. Through this exploration, I began to develop a unique perspective on how dis-ease shows up in the body and mind, and how we can address, and even prevent, symptoms that present in the body by focusing on the root cause in the subconscious and/or spirit. Like Nikola Tesla said, "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.", and I found that the same was true when it came to discovering the secrets behind our healing.
And so, at As Above Shop, my business model was put together with this concept top of mind; holistic health encompasses the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of one's whole self. We are affected by the seen and the unseen, the material and celestial, the physical and the metaphysical, and therefore our healing journey must involve both, as well.
Since opening, the feedback from our clients has confirmed to me that this approach allows them to explore their spiritual growth as an integral part of their complete wellbeing. It was a risk that I felt compelled to take as part of my own journey, and one that I am beyond grateful to share. I'm fortunate that the shop has attracted a number of talented practitioners that complement each other with their varied suite of services, each in alignment with the vision and mission of treating a whole person in body, mind, soul, and spirit.
